Thinking Activity : Dr. Faustus



Q1. The play directed by Matthew Dunster for globe theater ends with this scene( see the image of Lucifer.) what does it signify ?

Ans. In the last scene of the play we see that bad evil win against good evil. in other way we can say that Lucifer become more powerful/stronger than god. in the last we see wide big wings.it is show that bad evil more powerful than good evil/god. 

Q2. Is god present in the play ? if yes,where and how ? if no, why ?
Ans.Yes, god has present in the play as good angel and old man. in this play Dr.Faustus think that he was powerful than others. I think that god warns Dr.Faustus with the help of good angel and old man but in the end of the play Lucifer take a soul of Dr.Faustus in front of god so one question raise in my mind that "who is more powerful God or evil ?

Q3. What reading  and interpretation can be given to this image ( seethe image of Daedalus and Icarus) reference to central theme of the play Dr.Faustus ?

Ans. This picture of Daedalus and Icarus is "Greek Mythology" Icarus and Daedalus was father of Icarus. Icarus ignores his father warning and he was fall down so he was responsible for his own fall so in this play Dr.Faustus ignored warning of the god and his inner voice. he think that he become more powerful than others.

Q4 .How do you interpret this painting ? 

Ans.In this image we can see that in "Greek Mythology", Icarus succeeded in flying with wings made by his father's warning, Icarus chose to fly too close to the sun melting the wax and tell into the sea. there where we see fisherman and shepherd but they are busy in there own work and Ovid Icarus.
