Thinking Activity:- Modern Poems




1)                          Morning at the window by T. S. Eliot





                              First, i have a question that why poet standing at window ? may be he could not sleep whole night ?
                          
                              T.S.Eliot said "they are" so they means which people ? may be he saw the out sided people and think about them. "the sound of rattling plates" means that people want breakfast as soon as possible so that is why they make noise with help of empty plates. here poet describe the poverty and condition of poor people. also poet describe air pollution by cars,bikes and industries, the brown waves means bad fog created by industries. muddy skirts means they have not enough cloths to wear and they that's why the cloths are very dust full and dirty. but they live happily with fake smile (aimless smile). 


2)                   In a station of the metro by Ezra Pound




                              Poet standing center of crowd and noticed them. what they are doing. here poet describe lost of people and all are busy with their own work. poet choose the metro station because people and train both are busy and both are coming at their time and going at their time.


                           here poet use black bough. may be, black bough means steam of engine. 


3)                   Darkness by Joseph Campbell




                           The title of the poem Darkness used in positive way.  may be, poet seat alone or he going to some place and suddenly he looking at sky and stop to watch stars.
                           
                           "A star no longer, buy s silver ribbon of light" here poet said that when he look at sky, sky without stars and he saw only a silver ribbon of light. here we can sat that poet surfing  to mental illness that's why he stop and looking sky and stars.

                            "I look at it, and pass on" in this lines poet looking sky and stars and than he pass on means move on in his life.


4)                    The pool by Hida Doolittle




                           Are you alive ? poet ask this question to herself . here poet talk with inner voice or soul and she said that she touch herself, hoe can this possible ? the answer of this question is the title of the poem The pool. poet standing at rock pool side and see her reflection on water than she tell herself that she is a sea fish and she said, i cover you with my net.

                          What are you - banded one ? may be Hida Doolittle describe the woman condition during WW1 because this poem written that time.
