Arundhati Roy

                             About Arundhati Roy

She was born in Shillong, Meghalaya. She spent her childhood in Kerala. She left Kerala for Delhi at age 16.

Arundhati met film maker husband in 1984.she acted in the role of the village girl in the award winning movie 'Massey Sahib'. She begin writing the God of small things in 1992 and finished in 1996. The book was sold in 21 countries. This is semi auto biography and a major part captures on childhood experience. 

Roy was awarded the Sydney peace prize in May, 2004, for work in a social campaigns and advocacy of nonviolence. 


Here I'm talk about two novels by Arundhati Roy




In this novel Roy talk about:- 

- Small things (in our society concerned with "Big Thing") such as the caste system

- The Grotesque :- very beginning when Rahel images ceiling paint dying on the floor blood spelling from his skull on the floor.

- Homecoming

- Cultural Hybridity

- Colonial history


  


- Sexual Identity :- Aftab is the first boy of the house, his parents decide to getting treatment 
to prevent his female characteristics to take over.

- Religious intolerance

- Freedom 


I think Arundhati Roy is the best writer. she talked about contemporary issues like religious, history, politics, cultural hybridity, sexual identity, and many more.
